It’s time to get our list on! Intros aren’t my thing so I’m going to get right into the listing. Thanks as always to Meghan for hosting the one consistent post I put up each week 🙂
It was a wonderful short week at work, we were closed on Good Friday and my department got to spend Thursday hosting a school-wide easter egg hunt instead of direct therapy. That being said I still managed to squeeze in 2 IEP meetings, write 1 report, and start testing another student for his 3 year-eval.
The rest of the week was filled with the usual work (I have 5 new home health referrals to schedule), housework (we finally caught up on laundry after the last two whirlwind weeks), and yard work.
I Friday and Saturday gathering sticks, raking leaves, laying mulch, and pulling weeds. We discovered we actually have some pretty nice bushes out front (when we moved in we thought they were piles of sticks/leaves left over from last fall). We also discovered that fresh edges and new mulch make a world of difference.
Since Zach was off from his part time job for Easter we spent the day playing pick-up-fence. I’d say we took it down but 2/3 of it was already laying in various neighbors yards all we really had to do was gather up the pieces.
Resulting in a rather large pile behind our house that will, unfortunately, be hanging out for the next two weeks until we get our dumpster delivered for replacing the deck.
Not going to lie by the time all that clean up was done I was happy to spend the rest of the day taking it easy with the Sunday paper. I ended up with aches in muscles I didn’t even know I had, but it’s the good kind of ache that left me feeling accomplished.

Sometimes life gets crazy. I’m a firm believer that when that happens it’s important to focus your energy to keep from getting overwhelmed. Who am I kidding I still get easily overwhelmed… but I’m working on it. Either way, I love Meghan’s weekly list party because it serves as a reminder of all that I actually have accomplished.
This week was back to work and back into a pile of meetings. I work in special education and spring is always our ‘busy season’ where new students are referred to specialized programs like ours and many Individualized Education Plans for our existing students expire. Basically, it means my desk becomes a never ending pile of paperwork from mid-March to May which is my least favorite part of my job. On a positive note though I did write 3 of said IEP’s bringing my to-do list before schools out into the single digits.
I continued to battle the plague. This allergy/cold/cough combination has been going on 2 weeks now and while it’s not getting any worse it’s also not getting a whole lot better. Actually, if I’m being honest it’s just getting annoying.
I stopped by the County Clerk to pick up copies of our marriage license. I’m planning to hit up the social security office for my new card next week.
I wrote a grand total of 1 blog post. I took a bunch of pictures (that came out all grey because we haven’t seen the sun in what feels like forever) so hopefully, I’ll actually move something off of my draft list soon.
Z and I took a whirlwind weekend trip down to Louisville for his cousin’s wedding. The road trip included a stop at an amazing gluten-free cafe that was almost good enough to be the highlight of the trip, they even had angle food cake! Okay, the real highlight was spending the night dancing with my husband 🙂
Speaking of husbands we celebrated our first week of marriage. Not that we actually did anything to mark the occasion but it feels like an accomplishment nonetheless.
We also got our pictures back from our photographer and they are gorgeous!
I started a massive to-do list because we’re having a party for our combined families in June. Which sounds far off until you realize there are only 8 weekends between now and then. Hence the minor freak out leading to the massive to-do list 😮

March was an exciting month here in the middle and the final week was no different. Without further ado, let’s get listing!
I was on spring break from work which meant I had a full week to do some of the fun work around the house. I gave the carpets a second round of steam cleaning, hung pictures, and planted some plants.
I explored our neighborhood and enjoyed the one sunny day I had by taking a walk to our downtown to get myself a shiny new library card.
Z and I joined up at the local Costco where we immediately stocked up on the essentials…
All those little, domestic, activities were fun, but they paled in comparison to the highlight of the week. On March 31st we got married!
We had a private ceremony (plus my BFF who drove all the way in from Buffalo to surprise me), took some beautiful photos, and celebrated with a few of our favorite things.
We spent the next day celebrating with our immediate family (my parents got us the cutest little cake) and we have an open house planned to celebrate with our extended families in the summer (once we’ve had a chance to work on our yard).
And because there is obviously no better way to celebrate, we wrapped up the weekend by starting on some much-needed yard work. Z dug out the gutters while I started on raking all the leaves that the previous owners had left from last fall #domestic.
So it’s been 2 weeks since I checked into Meghan’s weekly list love party… I’d say sorry but I’m not :0 We’ve spent the past two weeks in total re-do mode painting and deep cleaning majority of our house and it’s starting to feel like home. Here’s the rundown.
So. Much. Paint. We spent one weekend doing the first floor with a little help from my dad to reach the tallest point of our ceilings.
We spent the next weekend painting our family room together and then I knocked out our bedroom by myself when Z went to work.
I borrowed my aunt’s steam cleaner and deep cleaned all our carpets, especially former bird room turned office (yay no more bird poop carpet!).
Z went on a de-spidering spree, collecting and freeing almost a dozen of them to the backyard.
I ventured back into the world of crafting by giving our couch pillows fresh covers and painting the really cool (if I do say so myself) waveform piece that’s going to hang above our bed.
We successfully built an office desk (even if it took two days). We also built a bookshelf, a coffee table, and two nightstands. I’m calling it quits on the furniture assembly for a while.
My dad came back over to help us remove the (awkwardly placed) ceiling fan that was in our hallway. While he was here he helped me install the wall grates that I’d unsuccessfully tried to hang on 3 previous occasions.
Our furniture was delivered (no assembly required!) except they forgot our couch feet… so some assembly required after I pick those up later this week.
After a whirlwind couple of weeks I’m looking forward to using my spring break from work to settle. I’m hoping to hang some pictures, maybe touch up some of the trim painting, and continue our ongoing war with the spiders. I’ll probably watch a decent amount of food network too because #balance.
I’m trying to live this year with intention which has given me an appreciation for the seemingly normal activities of daily life. What better way to reflect on the beauty of those simple moments than through Meghan’s weekly list party?!
I wrote 6 annual IEP’s, reviewed 5 potential students for admission, completed testing for 2 triennial evaluations, and evaluated a new home health patient. It has been the week from paperwork h*ll. The only bright side to having all the paperwork done is the 2-week break I have before my next batch of meetings starts up… just in time to do quarterly updates on my whole caseload.
I also battled some sort of stomach bug on and off for this week. It wasn’t the plague that swept my school at the start of the month and it was probably (definitely) related to a certain friend being in town for the week, but it left me nauseous and sluggish in a way that I haven’t been for a long time. Obviously, the best solution to anything that makes you feel that crummy is Tumeric Tea and a good book.
I finished the month strong with my #MinsGame challenge, clearing 73 unneeded items from my life in the month of February (hence the big trip to Goodwill). I was less successful with my proposed handstand challenge, I blame the aforementioned stomach issues for limiting that challenge, but at least I did get moving a few days this past week which did my body (and my mind!) some good.
Z and I made a trip to Ikea for our kitchen furniture and booked our Uhaul for the move. We also finished packing all but the essentials still in use… and took a huge pile of stuff to Goodwill.
I decided on my monthly challenges for March and cleaned up some blog posts that have been sitting in my draft tab for far too long.
I did the usual ironing/room cleaning/grocery shopping chores. It was super easy to grocery shop this week as we’re trying to clear out all the food we have before the move… it may be a little harder to eat as I try to use up the random bits of pasta/veggies/cheese/meats we have but what’s life without a little challenge.
What’s one challenge you’re facing this week? Any advice for a control freak who’s gearing up for a move?
Sometimes I set intentions for a week, workout 5 days and eat full meals each day and read the stack of research journals piling up on my nightstand, and when I don’t achieve those goals I take it as an excuse to get down on myself. Nevermind the fact that I was already feeling down on myself to begin with, which is why I didn’t accomplish any of the things I had hoped… vicious cycle much?
Rather than getting down on myself, I am choosing to recognize what I did accomplish this week, however small it may seem. Shoutout as always to Meghan for giving me the forum to spill the crazy thoughts in my brain.
I got at least 8 hours of sleep each night, with a little extra on the weekend in the form of naps. Sure my hair my look a little crazy when I rock a ponytail for the third day in a row, but who am I to argue with my body when it wants just 5 more minutes?
I worked a full week at my regular job, including writing annual reviews for 2 of my most challenging students. I also saw two home health patients and continued getting set up for part-time hours in a local pediatric clinic. I may have an increasingly thick stack of articles I want to read to help me design the best treatment for the wide range of individuals I treat, but I always leave work feeling like I made a difference for somebody.
I fully enjoyed all my co-treatment sessions with occupational therapy. From yoga to crab walking I got a full range of movement at work each day this week. I may not have had the motivation to do any additional exercise, but the movement I got did my body good.
I spent Sunday afternoon/evening tearing apart all our belongings in the basement and reboxing them in some semblance of order. During this time I also bagged up several bags of unused items for donation and attempted to convince Z that he should do the same.
Annnd that’s about it. I’m hoping to move out of this funk in the week to come, but I’m also trying to be respectful of my body’s natural highs and lows by not pushing myself if my motivation doesn’t come back.

It can be so easy to go through the day on autopilot. Since I’ trying to live this year with more intention I’ve been focusing more and multitasking less which has given me an appreciation for the seemingly normal activities of daily life. Even better Meghan created a crew of similarly minded people AND she lets us party on her blog every week. So without further ado, let’s get listing!
We met with a mortgage broker and a realtor and got our house hunt started! Our goal is to be settled by this spring and while we haven’t found any winners yet we’re watching the listings daily.
We had two special events at school this week. On Wednesday a police dog came to visit with our community groups. My students got to learn about the different ways dog’s can work with people as well as general dog safety skills and the sheriffs got a chance to learn how to interact with multiple students with varying ability levels. On Friday some of our older students faced off against the staff in a schoolwide floor hockey game. Both events helped to break up the grey and dreary weather of this week.
On the health front I worked out 4 days this week (and by worked out I mean I did yoga and stretched a lot). I also upped my water intake by quite a bit and I’m loving the boost of energy it’s giving me.
We both clocked 50+ hours and the paychecks put us at 96% funded on our downpayment. We’ll have that fully funded plus some savings started by the end of the month.
I read two books alongside seemingly endless mugs of tea.
Z and I split up the usual chores of cleaning the bathroom, laundry, and grocery shopping. We helped my mom move some furniture around in the house, resulting in a cozy new reading space. I also got back into my food prep game with a little weekend batch cooking.
I started and finished season 4 of BBC’s Sherlock… 2 days after starting it.
Annnd that’s it. This week is looking like more of the same with some home tours scheduled and part time hours piling up. My plan is to stay positive and focused on one day at a time and hope for some good news soon!
